Giuseppe Savazzi, 1987-88 Ambassadorial Scholar sponsored by the Rotary Club of Torino-Nord, Italy (District 2030) to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, USA

Professor Savazzi (Patriarch Elijah)was the first Italian scholar to be awarded a Rotary scholarship to study music. While he was at the Northwestern University, he thought of organizing a Rotary Youth Orchestra to foster friendship among young musicians around the world. As a conductor, he led the 90-member group from 15 countries to perform fundraising tours in Europe in the 90s. In the recent years, the group was renamed Jesus Christ Symphony Orchestra and involves musicians from 142 different countries. He is also a priest, and he is known as Patriarch Prophet Elijah for this role. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Torino Collina, Italy, and continues to reach out to youth including Rotaract club members through music.

Rebirth of the Rotary International Orchestra

What is the Rotary International Orchestra?
Maestro Giuseppe Savazzi through the “Rebirth of the Rotary International Orchestra” project carries out an international mission of musical and cultural alphabetization. The purpose is to give young musicians, in their native countries, the education needed to fully develop artistically and musically in a self-sufficient way.

Several initiatives have already been carried out in India, Costa Rica, Switzerland, Italy and other nations all around the world. In each country young students from local schools and orchestras are selected to take part in training master classes with Maestro Giuseppe Savazzi. The master class closing concert, apart from sealing the union of all the participants, can be used to raise funds for locally relevant social initiatives.

The Orchestra and Rotary International: a common goal
The purpose of the Rotary International Orchestra is to join people, cultures and religions together to create a brotherhood of harmony. The same goal is evident in current R.I. president Kalyan Banerjee’s  mission and project. This is the theme he chose for the rotarian 2011-2012 year:

"Reach Within to Embrace Humanity"

The WCS (World Community Service) program targets the same issues.

Music as a spiritual path
Kalyan Banerjee’s words "Reach Within to Embrace Humanity" contain an ultimate truth: strength, balance, peace and happiness depend on love. The presence of love must be constant, at hand, within ourselves. In such a state there is no reason to believe oneself as weak, poor and lonely.  True love can only be discovered in the spiritual dimension.

Music in the instrument chosen by Maestro Giuseppe Savazzi to discover himself, the Orchestra is the instrument he chose to pass on his knowledge to the world.

Psalm 108:1-6
–A Song. A Psalm of David.
1 O God, my heart is steadfast;

I will sing and give praise, even with my glory.
2 Awake, lute and harp!

I will awaken the dawn.
3 I will praise You, O LORD, among the peoples,

And I will sing praises to You among the nations.
4 For Your mercy is great above the heavens,

And Your truth reaches to the clouds.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens,

And Your glory above all the earth;
6 That Your beloved may be delivered,

Save with Your right hand, and hear me.

I bless you in the blood of Jesus Christ !

Hallelujah !

Jerusalem-Patriarch Prophet Elijah in the midst of crowds plays the shofar for all humanity

So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. 2 Samuel 6:15

The Ministry of Patriarch Prophet Elijah in the world:
Praise The Lord Jesus Christ

The Torah was given to Israel with the sound of the Shofar from heaven.

And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice. Exodus 19:19
The Shofar was used to accompany other musical instruments during  temple ceremonies in Jerusalem and in praise and worship.
With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King. Psalm 98:6
Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD. Psalm 150:3-6

Jerusalem Patriarch Elijah playing the Shofar
The trumpet was blown to announce the beginning of the festivals.

Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God. Numbers 10:10
